What Kids Order (and Why Adults End Up Stealing from Their Plates)

The hard part of eating out with kids isn’t the adults’ food. It’s making sure the little ones find something they actually want to eat, that it arrives on time and that the table doesn’t have to negotiate every five minutes. That’s why the kids’ menu deserves the same attention as a steak or a cocktail.

Six Dishes, Six Kinds of Kid

  • La Crema: corn soup with croutons. Smooth and slightly sweet, ideal for those who arrive hungry.
  • Fettuccine al Burro: sautéed with butter and crispy bacon. The one most adults end up trying “just a little bit.”
  • Chicken Breast: grilled, with white rice and steamed vegetables. The most balanced option.
  • Breaded Fish: with French fries. The breading wins over even those who won’t eat fish at home.
  • Mini Hamburgers: beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato, with fries. The mini format is easy for small hands.
  • Chicken Fingers: with French fries. The universal favorite, for the days when it’s not time to experiment.

Dessert, Where Kids Turn into Critics

The Ice Cream Tasting doesn’t arrive assembled: it arrives to be assembled. It comes with strawberry ice cream, metate chocolate, mazapán and Papantla vanilla, along with shredded coconut, chocolate sprinkles, M&M’s®, Oreo® cookies and cones. Kids decide what goes on their cone, and without noticing, they get closer to very Mexican ingredients.

The Porfirio’s Molecular Ice Cream, with cajeta crème anglaise in a cone, sparks curiosity from its name alone. And the Churros, with four dipping sauces, are perfect for sharing among siblings and cousins.

Porfiritos: When the Table Isn’t the Only Space

After eating, kids want to move. That’s what Porfiritos is for, Porfirio’s kids club. The idea isn’t to “drop off” the kids: it’s for them to have their own experience, with activities and entertainment, while the adults stay at the table undisturbed.

It’s available in Cancún, Mérida, Coyoacán and Polanco. It’s best to confirm hours with the location.

How to Put Together a Family Meal That Works

  • Order the kids’ dish right away, while the adults decide.
  • Something for the center of the table that everyone can share, like Tender Esquites or the Traditional Guacamole.
  • A sharing dish for the adults, like the Baked Beef Rib or the Trompo Callejero al Pastor.
  • Dessert as the family finale, to bring everyone back to the table.

A family meal works when everyone has something of their own: their dish, their space and their moment. And if an adult ends up stealing a fry from the kids’ plate, nobody has to know.
